TRAIN:
Many organisations are leaving themselves exposed to cyber attacks or data breaches by failing to address one of the simplest yet most effective defences and that is education and training.
These stats are unbelievable really, they are obviously thinking 'it won't be me'.
Half of UK businesses report having a basic skills gap in critical cybersecurity and even more worrying is that 84% of businesses often assign cybersecurity training as an additional task for their IT teams.
Without proper training, how can we expect employees from any are of the business to recognise and respond to threats effectively?
Why Cybersecurity Awareness Training Your Team Is a Must
I spend a significant amount of time speaking to teams and businesses about cybersecurity and delivering workshops on the topic and there is one thing that I am certain of, that no matter how advanced your technology is, your people remain your greatest strength and also the most biggest vulnerability when it comes to cyber threats and hackers.
Some recent statistics from UK sources are alarming to say the least!
According to the North West Cyber Resilience Centre, just 17% of businesses in the UK have provided basic cybersecurity training to their staff, and only 19% have tested employees' cybersecurity skills. That’s simply not enough to keep businesses safe.

In fact, I have even seen stats where the IT department are the worst performers in email compromise tests, also known as 'phishing'.
Workshops and training programmes are where the real transformation happen.
When I run a session, the goal isn’t just to tick a compliance box, it’s to make cybersecurity relatable, practical, and, most importantly, memorable.
Attendees leave understanding not just what the threats are but how their actions can prevent them, not just for them but for the whole company.
From spotting phishing attempts to managing passwords securely, training bridges the gap between theory and practice.
The benefits of awareness training are evident, because organisations that regularly educate their teams report up to 70% fewer security incidents. Phishing click rates drop dramatically, from 15% to 5%, when employees are trained to recognise suspicious emails.
On the financial side, the average cost of a cyber incident for medium and large businesses in the UK is over £10,000. Investing in education is a fraction of that cost and can save a fortune in the long run, as well as possible reputational damage.
There is always cultural shift that comes with proper training as teams feel more confident and engaged when they understand their role in protecting the business. They transition from being potential liabilities to being your superheroes in your defence strategy, because the security becomes second nature, a part of everyday work rather than an afterthought.
But proper training is not just about clicking through some PowerPoint or once a year 10 minute session to say 'yes I've done my cyber training' because effective training needs to be engaging, interactive, and ongoing.
Creating world simulations, discussions and demonstrations of recent incidents, and actionable advice tailored to the organisation’s specific risks is what make all the difference.
And when leadership gets involved that's even better as employees are far more likely to take security seriously when they see managers and board members sat next to them in the workshop.
The thing is that the cyber threat landscape isn’t getting any easier to navigate or protect against as attackers are becoming more sophisticated, and the stakes are higher, with data breaches in the UK costing over £22 million in fines, for the likes of British Airways.
But we you don't have to resign yourselves to being a victim of the hackers because by investing in cybersecurity awareness training and workshops, your organisation can turn their weakest link into their strongest line of defence.
When I stand in front of a room full of people during a workshop, I don’t just see employees or staff members, I see potential 'superheroes of security' who can help protect their businesses data, systems and reputation.
My job is to give them the tools, the confidence, and the motivation to protect what matters most.
And if you take the step to train you teams, I’m confident that you will see a shift in how your cyber threats are managed and mitigated within your business.

Think:
It all begins with an idea.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

My dynamic keynote, "How to Overcome Cyber Threats by Thinking Differently" challenges security professionals, executives, and tech innovators to rethink their approach to tackling cybercriminals. Drawing on principles of magic-such as misdirection, pattern recognition, and psychological manipulation-I reveal how these concepts can outsmart even the most sophisticated hackers.
Blending live mind-hacking demonstrations with actionable insights, I bring to life real-world examples that highlight the power of creative problem-solving in defending against cyber threats.
